Component: | guest additions | Version: | VirtualBox 2.2.2 |
Keywords: | timesync service | Cc: | |
Guest type: | Solaris | Host type: | Mac OS X |
Description
The VBoxService on OpenSolaris or Solaris does not bring the time forward after restoring the vm state from save file.
The service is running and starts to bring the time forward in the calculated manner, but this is way to slow for a large time differnce. Why doe sthe service not runn the same way as the windows or linux versions which immediatlly on resume resync the time to the host?
Any output that yo uwould like i can supply Regards Martin

Confirmed. The next release will contain a trigger of 20 minutes. If the time difference is bigger, the guest time will be set directly without any smooth adjustment.

Why 20 minutes? If one is using Kerberos for authentication, a 5 minute difference is a problem.

This is not yet the end of the story. That 20 minutes difference should normally not happen and setting the time hard causes other problems. The correct solution is to notify the guest when it was started from a saved state so the guest can properly warp the time in that case. Note that this 20 minutes delay can be tuned, see the user manual section 9.10.3.

Summary: | Timesync too slow → Timesync too slow => Fixed in SVN |

The next maintenance release will re-synchronize the guest time with the host immediately after the guest was restored from a saved state. Make sure to update the guest additions.

This (annoying) problem happens after sleeping my MacBook, too. To reproduce, synchronize the date on your OS guest, close your laptop for five minutes, open it, and observe that the OS guest has lost that time.
