VBox DHCP unreachable after restarting saved WinXP Guest
Reported by: | Daniel Wolf | Owned by: | |

Component: | network/NAT | Version: | VirtualBox 2.2.2 |
Keywords: | Cc: | ||
Guest type: | Windows | Host type: | Linux |
Description
After restarting my "saved" WinXP guest i can not reach the VBox DHCP and Gateway Server. The curious thing is that i get an IP-Adress from the NAT and a DNS-Server Adress from my Host-Network. I also can reach the DNS-Server by ping. But pinging the Gateway results in no connection. My VBox Network Adapter is configured as PCnet-FAST III (NAT). My Host System is Ubuntu 8.10
After shutting down the guest system and restarting it all works fine and the DHCP and Gateway is reachable so that using network over NAT is possible.

Very interesting as the guest additions usually don't change anything related networking. Will close anyway, please reopen if you encounter such problem again. Note that the virtual network device will signal a disconnected connection for 5 seconds after a guest was restored. This way the guest is forced to apply for a new DHCP release. So wait for at least 5 seconds after your guest was restored.
With 8.04.2 Ubuntu as Host System it works fine. Seems to be only happen in 8.10
