#3717 closed enhancement (wontfix)
Wish: Remove version from Ubuntu/Debian package name.

Description
It would be good to have the package called simply virtualbox, without version.
This would allow simple version upgrade with the ordinary regular check for upgrades, which is switched on in Ubuntu distributions.
Current naming scheme suggests manual launching of the package manager, searching for new VirtualBox package, marking it for installation, accepting removal of the previous version - much more actions.

The intension for choosing this naming scheme is that some can choice between several the major releases of VirtualBox. One Debian/Ubuntu release can only contain one dedicated release. If we would name every VirtualBox release virtualbox, every user would be forced to upgrade to the latest release which is not always intended. For instance, some users might prefer to stay at VirtualBox 2.1.4 until some nasty bugs of VirtualBox 2.2.0 are fixed.
When using a package manager, the upgrade is very easy because selecting the virtualbox-2.2 package will automatically unselect the virtualbox-2.1 package.
