Vbox 2.1.4 for Linux GUI issue

Reported by: nbi Owned by:

Description

The guest window location is not remembered by the Vbox app between invocations thereby requiring the user to manually adjust the window position. Very annoying.

Actually the window position is remembered. This might not work on some systems, therefore it would be appreciated if you could add some more information about your Linux distribution and about the window manager you are using.

Debian Lenny 64 bit, kernel 2.6.28, GNOME, iceWM window manager.

I did try to explicitly set starting location (the window size does seem to be remembered) via iceWM using the X window class and name (obtained from xprop). Unfortunately that isn't possible due to a bug in how iceWM parses the window name which in the case of vbox consists of multiple strings separated by spaces. This may not matter anyhow because it may not be possible to statically declare the geometry since the guest window's size changes from initial appearance until the guest has finished booting. I can't think of any other X apps where the initial window geometry does not match the specified starting geometry. If that is true then vbox itself is entirely responsible for the correct starting geometry.
