#3580 closed defect (worksforme)

Network breaks if the cable of the host machine is unplugged and plugged in again.

Reported by: FengZhaolin Owned by:
Component: network/hostif Version: VirtualBox 2.1.4
Keywords: Cc:
Guest type: Windows Host type: Windows

Description

Repo:

  1. The host machine runs windows server 2003 sp2.
  2. Create a guest system with hosted interface. (I tested with Ubuntu 8.04 and Windows Server 2003).
  3. Host and Guests use static ip addresses.
  4. Unplug the network cable.
  5. Plug in cable again.
  6. The guest machines is not accessible from outside.

An external machine can ping the host, but not the guests. The host can ping external machines and the guests. A guest can ping the host or other guests, but not external machines.

The only way to solve it is to reboot the guest machine.

Sorry, the host machine is Windows Vista x64.

The problem remains in VirtualBox 2.2 beta2

On another machine, I didn't encounter this problem. I guess maybe it's related to the network card of the host machine. It's ASUS P5K PRO Motherboard. From the device manager, I can see the network adapter is Marvel Yukon 88E8056 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller.

Confirmed again in VirtualBox 2.2.0 official release.

I added a PCI network card and disabled the onboard one. Problem solved.
