Description
I am running windows XP and have a VBox Ubuntu 8.10 Guest. I have a Creative Optia Pro Web Cam attached via USB. When I attempt to access it inside of my Ubuntu Guest, it is a black screen.
The USB device is turned on, and seems to be available in Ubuntu Guest, lsusb reports it. lsmod shows the loading of the v4lin2 drivers. Even when I run the various apps they detect it. However, the video feed coming out is black - nothing. And I have set the perms on /dev/video0 to 777 so this is not a permissions issue.
I have run the exact same camera on a the same xp box in a VMWare virtual machine, with ubuntu 8.10. It runs and you get a valid picture. I also have no issues with the camera on the xp box.

Duplicate. Search for webcam.
This also occurs for me with VB 2.2.0, using a Windows XP (SP3) Host and Ubuntu 8.10 guest (kernel 2.6.27-11-generic) with all latest updates applied. This also includes the latest uvcvideo drivers.
I have tried several programs to show the image from a Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 with no luck so far. Ekiga doesn't show a window at all. guvcview shows a black screen, as reported by lwsiv above.
I tried disabling USB2.0 which resulted in no devices recognised at all :( Also tried enabling and disabling 3D acceleration and increasing video memory with no luck.
The WinXP/Ubuntu combo works fine under VMWare.
Running sudo guvcview shows that the camera is detected fine, but then continuously prints to the terminal window: "Could not grab image (select timeout): Resource temporarily unavailable" - the black screen remains, yet the camera light does engage, so *some* communication is occurring.
Damien.
