I'm using same setup as DrBrex only using VB version 1.4.0. X crashes with vboxvideo but does not crash with the vesa driver. I'm not seeing any obvious cause in the xorg log. Can anyone else confirm?

This will probably not solve your problem but please replace the 'mouse' driver by 'vboxmouse' and post the resulting Xorg.0.log again.

You are right it did not solve the problem but I attached the xorg log as requested.

Workaround: Add the following section to /etc/X11/xorg.conf of your guest:
Section "ServerFlags"
Option "Xinerama" "true"
EndSection
We are investigating the problem.

Thanks. Only problem is that with that setup, it says that the xrandr extension could not be used or loaded or something like that so I can't change my resolution without physically changing it in the xorg file. Please let me know if I can do anything to aid in the investigation.

We fixed this issue in svn. The fix is included in the next release of VirtualBox.

Any clue when the next release will be?

This problem re-surfaced again on VBox 1.5.2
Host OS: Windows XP
Guest OS: Ubuntu 7.10 (gutsy gibbon)
The workaround with "Xinerama" set to "true" fortunately still works :)

Replying to piotr2012:
Are you sure that you installed the guest additions from VirtualBox 1.5.2 in that machine? I know that it may not help you much, but here it works out of the box.

Same here, works fine with a Gutsy guest. Please could you attach the Xorg.0.log file of your guest?
comment:16 Changed 10 years ago by piotr2012
My Gutsy was an on-line upgrade from Feisty which had the guest additions installed. However now that, I reinstalled the guest additions it works. Thank you. We can close this one.

Thanks for the report.

Works fine with VBox-HEAD from svn.
