#3470 closed defect (fixed)

abnormal cpu consumption when usb mapping enabled

Reported by: luis peralta Owned by:
Component: USB Version: VirtualBox 2.1.4
Keywords: Cc:
Guest type: Linux Host type: Mac OS X

Description

When mapping USB ports from the host to the guest system, VirtualBox consumes around 50% of the host CPU time even when the machine is idle. Same results occur with EHCI enabled or disabled.

Attached USB device is a temperature sensor which is polled every 5 minutes for its value. I can expect VBox to consume that much CPU while the device is being used, but not when idling. Deactivating USB support makes VBox consume less 5% CPU on the host system most of the time.
