Windows Xp Shared Folders pointing to root filesystem(/) often hang when trying to access

Description
I have had difficulty with shared folders if I try and map a network drive in windows XP, where I have setup a shared folder that points to root. This used to work, but somewhere between and including 2.06 to 2.1.2 mapping root has gotten busted. Now with 2.1.2 if I try and map the root, the tool will not directly allow you to. You have to choose the mac disk itself, but then the tool inserts nothing for the path and "." for the name. Strange.
