Rhinoceros 3D viewports corrupt in WinXP guest

Reported by: hi.sergio@gmail.com Owned by:
Component: 3D support Version: VirtualBox 2.1.2
Keywords: 3D artifacts corruption Cc:
Guest type: Windows Host type: Linux

Description (last modified by aeichner)

Rhinoceros 3D 4.0 viewports attempt to reproduce app interface or are solid black instead of actually displaying the 3D content

The problem disappears on 1 of the viewports when temporarily interacting with it (panning, rotating view, making selections, modelling) but returns as soon one clicks outside of it.

If 3D acceleration is disabled in the VM settings, the problem disappears completely and everything behaves appropriately.

Note: this app wouldn't even run with 3D acceleration before updating VirtualBox to 2.1.2 and respective Guest Additions.

Host Specs: Ubuntu 8.10 32bit, ATI fglrx drivers, P-M 1,73Ghz processor (no VM extensions), 2Gb RAM

Guest Specs: Windows XP SP3, 1Gb RAM assigned, 64Mb VRAM assigned

The same problem can be seen with SolidWorks here, on the latest VirtualBox 2.2 Beta 1 r44647.. Something is very wrong with the redrawing... During operations where the 3d display is continuosly updated at least that part looks correct, but the toolbox on the left can not be made to be redrawn.. Almost usable... ;)

oh and sorry this is with latest vanilla kernel and current xorg build, using the NVidia proprietary driver 185.13 ...
