Keyboard layout through vnc/ssh -> fixed in SVN/1.4.2

Description

I am having problems with incorrect guest english keyboard layouts running vbox through vncviewer. Vbox is running on a Slackware (11.0) host which I am accessing through tightvnc via ssh.

Running several types of guest installations (Windows, Linux), I get the same layout errors (e.g. Enter=Space, Space='7', etc.).

No problems when I access the host directly.

Hi,

I have the same problem when tunneling tight vnc thru ssh, and then running a vbox session. Key mapping is completely off. Typing 'abcdefgh' results in 'asdfghjk'. Any help would be appreciated.

Try manually setting the DISPLAY variable to something that does not start with ":" (e.g. localhost:0.0). This causes VBox to fall back to safer keyboard code designed to work with non-local setups.

Thanks michael. That did the trick. It's an easy workaround, but is there any way to make that behaviour automatic?

It will be automatic in the next version.
