Description

I'm using a Thinkpad T42 laptop. I've installed OpenSolaris 8.11 as the host and created a Windows XP guest. I've installed Activesync on the Windows guest and want to sync my phone through this interface. I don't see my USB device.

Summary: Cannot access AT&T smartphone over usb link on Windows guest on an OPenSolaris hostNo USB support on OpenSolaris hosts

USB is not supported on Solaris hosts. A couple of OpenSolaris bugs/restrictions need to be fixed first. (see bugster)

This is no longer true - the bug in question (or at least, what I was told) is now released (snv_106 is now out):

The USB support in vbox 2.2 BETA1 tries to capture USB devices, but only appears to work if it is attached as a mass storage device.

SunOS blinder 5.11 snv_110 i86pc i386 i86pc

Example - Nokia N95 phone. Has several modes of attachment, the useful one (for the MS Windows XP/Vista management app) is "PC Link" - this results in the USB proxy reporting that it has captured the device, but getting a failure popup in the gui.

These two lines hint at the problem:

Mar 19 22:02:18 blinder usba: [ID 349649 kern.notice] usba: no driver found for interface 0 (nodename: 'communications') of Nokia N95

Mar 19 22:02:18 blinder usba: [ID 723738 kern.notice] /pci@0,0/pci108e,6676@2,1/hub@7/device@2 (usb_mid4): can't support ugen for multiple configurations devices that have attached child interface drivers

Note that if I choose to attach the phone "data transfer" mode, it shows up just fine as an ordinary storage device. However, that's not what I want it to be.

snv_122 included support for "VirtualBox USB Device Capture" (http://arc.opensolaris.org/caselog/PSARC/2009/422). When will VirtualBox be updated to match this?

comment:5 by Ramshankar Venkataraman, 14 years ago

Resolution: fixed
Status: newclosed

The new USB support is available in VirtualBox 3.1 (requires snv_124 or higher).
