Description

With kernel 2.6.27.6 and a serial port enabled the following error message is given many times on the kernel log:

serial8250: too much work for irq4

A similar discussion related to qemu is here:  http://kerneltrap.org/mailarchive/linux-kernel/2008/2/5/735714

The port works without problems.

I'm having the same exact problem, only it is causing data loss in my case. When I try and transfer a file in my CentOS guest, the data is broken up. I did a dmesg and got several instances of:

serial8250: too much work for irq4

Thanks!

I get the same problem in 2.2.

Mapped /dev/ttyS0 to /dev/ttyS0 on the host.

Host : Ubuntu 7.10

Guest: Ubuntu 8.04

I am running Hylafax with an Agere external modem and it seems this problem causes the fax to work unreliably from the guest.
