#2457 closed defect (fixed)

Unable to access \vboxsrv or \vboxsvr => Fixed in SVN/3.1.0

Reported by: Jeenu V Owned by:
Component: shared folders Version: VirtualBox 2.0.2
Keywords: vboxsrv, vboxsvr Cc:
Guest type: Windows Host type: Linux

Description

I'm trying to run a Windows XP guest on both Ubuntu and Vista hosts. However, in both cases, I'm not able to access the \vboxsvr or \vboxsrv from the guest. It says Network Path Unreachable, although I've shared directories using the GUI. I'm using VirtualBox 2.0.2.

However, when I run the same guest on an Ubuntu host, I'm able to access Samba shares from the host.

Samba shares and VirtualBox shared folders are completely different things. Please try to connect the shared folder to a network drive as described in the user manual.

I do understand the fact that they are completely different. I mentioned about Samba shares hoping it would aid to solve the problem by the very fact that I'm able to access the network -- my host -- but not the server by the name vboxsrv or vboxsvr.

To explain further: When I say \jeenu-laptop (which is the name of my host), I can see the Samba shares there. I get a network path unreachable when I try to access \vboxsrv or \vboxsvr. Also "My Network Places" is showing as empty. I've already shared folders using the GUI

This should be fixed in VirtualBox 3.1 beta ( http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=24827 ). Make sure to install 3.1 guest additions.

To me it's still the same: both \vboxsrv and \vboxsvr are unreachable. Please see the screen shot where it's clear that \vboxsrv is unreachable, where I've a network drive mapped from \vboxsrv\jeenu

The log shows that the guest still has old additions. Please install 3.1.0 additions.
