Description
With the latest version of VirtualBox and Guest Additions (7.0.20 r163906), Ubuntu 24.04 will not consistently boot successfully. I have attached a screenshot of what I see on screen every time Ubuntu 24.04 fails to boot successfully.

I definitely saw the same exact logs and failures with systemd-resolved, oomd, timesyncd my self, and I'm the same exact situation (H:W10, G:Ubuntu 24.04, VBox:7.0.20). It may looks like they are more frequent when networking is missing, but for sure missing network shouldn't freeze the system this way. I also noticed different boot issues, with frequent callstack reported on dmseg. I merged the dmesg plus VBox logs when the boot failed in failed-boot-dmesg-logs.7z
. If the system is able to boot correctly after it looks like stable, but for me the upgrade from Ubuntu 22.04 -> 24.04 was quite bad as I also had issues with graphics.

I can totally confirm this. I upgraded from 23.10 to 24.04 and it all went downwards from there. The 3D acceleration had to be disabled because as soon as I opened Nautilus (the files app) there was an error that looked like a Nullpointer Exception.
After disabling 3D acceleration with VMSVGA I from time to time still have the boot process stuck. This is the same for 6.5, 6.6 and 6.8 kernels in the VM.

Just updated to 7.1.0 r164728, with guest additions, extensions, Ubuntu 24.04.1 packages full updated as well: no improvements at all and the boot is very unreliable with frequent crashes with printed callstack (on a rough estimate, I would say 2/5 of the boots fails). As before if the boot completes then the system is stable (but only if Wayland is disabled). Either there are serious bugs in Ubuntu 24.04 or VirtualBox doesn't like at all what newer Ubuntu versions are doing. Or both.
Failed boot with many callstacks in the dmesg plus VBox logs
