FreeBSD VM with EFI: "poweroff" fails — at Version 2

Description (last modified by )
With a FreeBSD VM using EFI, "poweroff" reproducibly fails. That is, the VM reproducibly stops but does not power off as intended.
I noticed that setting sysctl hw.efi.poweroff=0 in the VM lets the machine power down as work-around. It seems to bypass EFI for powering down. But the default of hw.efi.poweroff=1 has the issue.

Tested with FreeBSD 14.0-RELEASE and 13.2-RELEASE VMs on Linux host running VirtualBox 7.0.14 from the official Oracle repository.
