Virtualbox 7.0.97 r158222 guest addition cause a bluescreen on Windows 8.1 guests — at Version 1

Unfortunately, there's a regression which has been going on for a few versions now in Virtualbox 7.0.97 r158510 in which installing the latest Guest Additions to a Windows 8.1 Professional x64 guest causes it to bluescreen at the next reboot. Using the boot time options to restore the old files via a restore point fixes the issue. The last stable guest addition version is 7.0.7 r155584.
How to reproduce:
- Install Virtualbox 7.0.97 r158510 and the extensions pack
- Install Windows 8.1 Professional x64 using a legit ISO
- Boot and install the Guest Addition r158510
- Reboot
This will lead to a bluescreen.
Current mitigation:
- Install the r155584 guest addition instead
This will lead to a proper boot.
Host is Fedora 39 x64 kernel 6.3.9 Guest is Windows 8.1 Professional x64
