#2035 closed defect (obsolete)
creating fixed size images is slow

Description (last modified by )
When a fixed size image is created the OS first writes the image (the progress bar is empty and lots of disk writes are reported) and then the disk manager writes it again at about half the rate of the OS (now the progress bar shows the progress).
Both passes are very slow and there is no need to duplicate the writes.

3.99GB on FAT32 filesystem. Creating the image on HFS works as expected but creating a fixed size image does not make that much sense there.

Please reopen if still relevant with a recent VirtualBox release.
We cannot reproduce this problem here, neither on a MacOS X host nor on a Linux host. There is one progress bar which is constantly increasing. As written in the dialog, creating a fixed-size disk image will take some time because every sector of the virtual disk has to be written once.
Btw, what size did you select for the fixed-size disk image?
