Description

When I play Rockman 8 FC using the ICH AC97 audio controller and have Windows Server 2003 use Intel's AC97 driver (that it downloads and installs when the audio controller is detected), the game plays faster than normal. I am attaching the game to this ticket.

Replying to Zero3K10:

The game is too big to attach. So, you can instead get it at http://demake.web.fc2.com/Rockman8FC_v313b.zip.

  1. Disabling I/O APIC doesn't fix it.
  2. There are no drivers for Intel HD Audio under a Windows Server 2003 VM.

  1. I was able to install the driver for the Intel HD Audio controller under Windows 7. Doing that results in the game playing even FASTER than with the ac97 driver.
  2. It ONLY occurs with Rockman 8 FC.

The speed is normal in VMWare Player 15.

Just gave Rockman a quick try on a Windows 7 (HDA) and Windows XP guest (AC'97): Both run the same speed.

Judging from YouTube videos which show the game including music, the sound in VirtualBox plays at the correct speed (although the music is pretty retro / fast).

So it must be something else which the game does that makes the actual rendering speed go faster than it should. Probably related to VM timekeeping and/or wrong/weird timing implementation on the game side.
