Description

Just installed the VBox 6.1.12 update and updated the Guest Additions. Windows 7 x64 (newest updates) does not start anymore, it crashes with a blue screen. Graphics Adapter is VBoxVGA. It works with other graphics adapters configured in settings.

Similar issue here. After installing 6.1.12 + extension pack a Windows 10 guest can be used with the new guest additions, but a Windows 7 guest doesn't boot anymore, after installing the guest additions. It doesn't cause a blue screen, but after it fails, startup offers to continue in safe mode. Starting Windows 7 in safe mode works, but doesn't find a solution. I restored Windows 7 from a snapshot and tried again. The Windows 7 guest failed to boot again after installing the guest additions. I didn't test selecting another graphics controller. However, the Windows 10 guest does use VBoxSVGA, while for the Windows 7 guest VBoxVGA is selected. See Arch Linux user repository #comment-756406.

Update: The Windows 7 guest works with the guest additions installed, after migrating to VBoxSVGA.
