Black screen after GUI login on Ubuntu with tools installed.

Description
Hi
I'm running on virutalbox (6.1.6r137129) on Windows 10 and I have installed an Ubuntu 20.04 guest on the host. I have then installed the virtualbox guest additions on the guest.
The problem I have is that after bootup, the login window is displayed and I log in but then the screen goes totally black. If I then resize the window, the desktop appears
I'm not sure if this is a bug in virtualbox / guest additions or some sort of conflict with Ubuntu. I have tried this multiple times installing new version of Ubuntu and each time the problem re-occurs so for me it is repeatable.
Steps to reproduce:
- Install Ubuntu 20.04 Guest OS (I gave it 128MB video memory, VMSVGA video, 3D acceleration enabled
- Boot guest OS
- Install guest additions (you'll need "build-essential" package installed too)
- Reboot
- Set guest to start up in full screen mode.
- Login
<black screen>
- Re-size guest window.

I have tried VBoxGuestAdditions_6.1.7-137891 from the test builds on 7 distros and that works correctly

The next day VBoxGuestAdditions_6.1.7-137891 and those VMs failed again. It looks like it worked yesterday, but trying again today it failed. It could be caused because I rebooted the Host.

Same external symptoms here when using Debian 10 guests with Mate desktop. Guests have always run full-screen but with both 6.1.6 and 6.1.8 GA's, fullscreen is broken - just a blank screen after login. Video is set to use VMSVGA and 3D acceleration is set off.
The GA's from 6.1.4 work correctly.
XDG session details are as follows :
XDG_SESSION_PATH=/org/freedesktop/DisplayManager/Session0
XDG_SESSION_DESKTOP=lightdm-xsession
XDG_SESSION_TYPE=x11
XDG_SESSION_CLASS=user
XDG_SESSION_ID=2

Have just re-tested this with Guest Additions 6.1.9.138064 but the problem persists.
Environment details :
Host - Debian 10 Mate desktop
VirtualBox 6.1.8 r137981
Guests - Debian 10 Mate desktop
Guest Additions, either 6.1.8 or 6.1.9.138064
Note : Fullscreen can be restored by re-sizing guest window twice.

Seems to be similar/same problem as that reported in ticket https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/19496
However, as stated above, latest test build of GA's (6.1.9.138064) does not fix problem.

I found that switching VMSVGA to VboxSVGA (which is no longer supported!) corrects the problem.

I have just tried this with GA from the following link: https://www.virtualbox.org/download/testcase/VBoxGuestAdditions_6.1.13-140023.iso I could not reproduce this bug. Could you please replace your GAs with the one from this link and let us know if it works for you or not. Thanks

I have the same problem with Ubuntu 18.04 as host machine and Ubuntu 20.04 as guest with VMSVGA graphics controller.
As a workaround I found that if I disable 3D acceleration things start to work again (with both VMSVGA and VboxSVGA).

This fixes it for me. After installing guest additions 6.1.13 VMSVGA works for me even when I enable 3D acceleration.
Same problem with 6.1.8. And it happens on all my Ubuntu guests from 16.04 to 20.04 and all Ubuntu familly members (Xubuntu, Ubuntu Mate etc.) that I did update from 6.1.4 to 6.1.8. As far as I remember the reboot after the update to 6.1.8 works.
I moved all my work to Vbox virtual machines and errors like this are very annoying! Fortunately it looks that pressing 2 x CTRL+F bypasses the problem, but the conky display is on the wrong location afterwards. I have to accept it or rollback approx 40 VM Guest Additions to 6.1.4.
