#1886 closed defect (fixed)

random (and wild) repeat of keys (Suse11.0 guest on WinXP host)

Reported by: Martin Owned by:
Component: GUI Version: VirtualBox 1.6.2
Keywords: keyboard repeat Cc:
Guest type: Linux Host type: Windows

Description

I am running openSUSE 11.0 guests on a windows host - entering Text or scrolling/paging using the keyboard is nearly impossible ... randomly (every few seconds) a key press shows up as 2 to 6 repetitions ... type hello and read hhhhhellooo press PageDown and see the window paging 4 times ...

and when trying to delete one of the repeated characters it happens that 4 chars to the left go to hell with it ;-)

I have a similar issue on a Kubuntu 8.04 guest on windows xp pro host, virtualbox 1.6.2 and 1.6.4. Restart generally fixes the problem, although it starts again later, prompting me to restart the virtual machine again. Problem is the same for a fullscreen, seemless or simply windowed mode and appears no matter the amount of memory assigned to the virtual machine (appears even though 700 MB are reported free in the linux guest alone). The keyboard repeating reappears even though the state of the machine is seemingly constant, no programs being loaded or memory usage increased.

I wonder if this is related to #1229?

http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?t=10396 has a forum entry on this as well... I'm seeing it under 2.0.4 xp sp3 host kubuntu 8.10 guest

http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/270 and http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/159 have the same problem, but closed and fixed already... sounds like it's popping up again?

I'm seeing the same keyboard autorepeat problem with VirtualBox 2.1.2, running 64-bit Debian Lenny on top of 64-bit Debian Lenny on an Intel Core 2 CPU.

Is anything being done about this? I'm having the same problem almost a year later with 2.2.4. I'm running a Suse 11.1 host and a Suse 10.2 guest, both as 64-bit. According to http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=18649 the solution is to get rid of my USB keyboard, which I don't really like very much.

To be sure: You did not create a USB filter for your keyboard and passed it into the guest, right? Could you attach a VBox.log file from such a VM session?

comment:9 by PenguinLust, 15 years ago

I don't know what a USB filter is, so I guess not. Ok, I'll attach my log in a minute

I notice that the last comment for this ticket is eight months old. I was seeing a similar problem back then, but it seems to be fixed in recent releases of VirtualBox. PenguinList and others, you might like to try again with 3.1.x.
