Not sure if it's the exact same issue, but I managed to reproduce the error on v6.1.4r136177 on Windows 10 (1909 build 18363.752) by having an invalid network path in the list of recent optical media images (GUI/RecentListCD).

Eg. having the line...

<ExtraDataItem name="GUI/RecentListCD" value="\ \192.168.0.254\Folder\Image.iso"/>

...In the settings file (%HOMEPATH%\.VirtualBox\VirtualBox.xml) will cause the VM to hang and crash with the same error message. You can fix the crashing by removing the entire GUI/RecentListCD -line from the settings file. There doesn't seem to be any other way than manually removing bad entries from the list of recently used optical images.

EDIT: Do not include the space in the value field, it's there because the site doesn't let you write double \.
