Not sure if it's the same issue, but I managed to reproduce this on v6.1.4r136177 on Windows 10 (1909 build 18363.752) by having an invalid network path in the list of recent optical media images (GUI/RecentListCD).
Eg. having the line...
<ExtraDataItem name="GUI/RecentListCD" value="
192.168.0.254\Folder\Image.iso"/>
...In the settings file (%HOMEPATH%\.VirtualBox\VirtualBox.xml) will cause the VM to hang and crash with the same error message. You can fix the crashing by removing the entire GUI/RecentListCD -line from the settings file. There doesn't seem to be any other way than manually removing bad entries from the list of recently used optical images.
exact same issue here 6.0.6
