It's usually better and faster, if issues get first addressed in the VirtualBox forums, a lot more eyes there. More than 95% of the issues are resolved over there, which keeps the developers focusing on the bug fixes and enhancements, and there is no need for another ticket to keep track of. For example, yours is not a bug and someone from the developers has to deal with it and close it as "Invalid".
You need to change the template. "Ubuntu 64" is too new for this 2004 release. You need to set it up as "Other Linux (64)", then go to the VM Settings » System » Motherboard » Extended Features, and disable the "Enable I/O APIC" option. Then it will work.
I couldn't get the X server to get up and running, but this is not something that you resolve in the bugtracker, that's what the forums are for...
If you have any more questions/issues, please open a new thread in the Linux Guests section of the forums, because I have a feeling that this thread will be closed as "Invalid".
