A black screen with no error message or a spontaneous reboot is the standard Windows way of indicating that the OS is dissatisfied with the hardware configuration. ACPI or no ACPI? I/O APIC or no I/O APIC? Unfortunately we can't tell you what your image expects, you need to know that.

This is very unlikely to be a VirtualBox problem. Certainly no information you provided suggests that it is.

INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE means incorrect storage controller configuration. Again, we can't tell you what the OS expects. We can only tell you it's not what the VM is configured for (PIIX3 IDE). It could be expecting a different IDE controller model or some completely different storage controller.

It's usually better and faster, if issues get first addressed in the VirtualBox forums, a lot more eyes. More than 95% of the issues are resolved over there, which keeps the developers focusing on the bug fixes and enhancements, and there is no need for another ticket to keep track of. For example, yours is most probably not a bug and someone from the developers has to deal with it and close it as "Invalid".

So, if you can, please open a new thread in the Windows Guests section of the forums. Please be sure to mention that you came from the bug tracker and include the ticket number.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
