#17351 new defect

Virtual box GUI bad access crash on NAT network settings edit

Reported by: ncj Owned by:
Component: GUI Version: VirtualBox 5.2.0
Keywords: Cc:
Guest type: other Host type: Mac OS X

Description

I can, rather consistently, get the GUI to crash when trying to edit the settings for a NAT network.

The crash follows the presence of some visual defects and that in turn is based on presence of the "Global settings" on the main GUI screen. If I don't enable the tabs for either of the global settings, I don't get the visual defects and I don't experience a crash.

Whilst the GUI defects don't bother me much, the patter here seems to relate to them and the new "Global Tools" tabs. Once either or both of the "Virtual Media Manager" or the "Host Network Manager" have been enabled from either the selection or the drop down.

Go to Preferences > Network > Add or selection a Nat Network > Edit > crashes.

My host is macOS 10.13.1, and VirtualBox 5.2.2. I've also tested it with 5.2.3-119405 and the effects and crash remain.

I don't know if there were any changes in this last build (Version 5.2.3 r119552 (Qt5.6.3)) related to this, but for information sake, the behaviour remains the same.

Issue still exists in v5.2.8, although the GUI seems a little more stable.
