Reported by: Praetorian Owned by:
Component: other Version: VirtualBox 5.1.28
Keywords: Direct3D GTX460 Cc:
Guest type: other Host type: other

Description

I cannot get direct3d to run in my Windows XP Professional 32-bit guest. Ran the Virtualbox addon program to enable direct3d. DxDiag tests report failure on Direct3D 7 at step 40 (Creating flipping primary surface with one back buffer) The screen flashes several times and then fails 3D emulation. The other DxDiag tests seem ok. (one exception d3d 8 and d3d 9 list as old version. Installed DirectX-2010 end-user runtime to update files. Same status listed. Have gone two days of troubleshooting to get to this point. Please could you look into any issues with Nvidia GTX460 and this issue for VirtualBox Build 5.1.28.

DirectX Test Report for NVIDIA GTX460

Hi Praetorian.

Your logs show no problems with Direct3D 8 and 9.

What do you mean saying "cannot get direct3d to run" ? I.e. which software fails to run in your Win XP guest?

Hi DmitrG.

Direct3d runs three different test under the dxdiag.exe. The first one (Direct3D 7 test) fails. Direct3D 8 and 9 run ok. Get the error about flipping primary surface with one back buffer. I get a similar problem when I tried to install a game that uses Direct3D ver7. The screen flashes many windows and then it reports that it cannot emulate 3D.

Hope that helps.

Hello Praetorian.

In fact, hardware acceleration of Direct3D version 8 and 9 (but not 7) is supported by VirtualBox. Please have a look into https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch04.html#guestadd-3d
