Share Folder Freezes

Reported by: DanielB Owned by:
Component: shared folders Version: VirtualBox 5.1.24

Description

I have a Windows 7 Professional 64 bits VM running on Virtual Box Version 5.1.24 r117012 (Qt5.6.2) on macOS Sierra Version 10.12.5 (16F73).

I use Share Folder in the Windows VM (auto-mount and permanent). I edit files directly on the Shared Folder. From time to time (and now more often than not) the Shared Folder freezes, even though it still shows as connected. When this happens, the Windows VM becomes unresponsive and doesn't even shut down (I have to force it by powering off the VM).

A similar ticket existed already (15662) but I was recommended to open a new one (?).

Thanks for opening the new ticket. You said that you upgraded to VirtualBox 5.1.24 and I assumed that the freeze is a new problem.

But it turned out that you did not install the 5.1.24 guest additions in the guest. From attached VBox.log:

00:00:24.593963 VMMDev: Guest Additions information report: Version 5.0.22 r108108 '5.0.22'

Look at the old ticket https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/15662#comment:25 it clearly says that the bug has been fixed in 5.1.x r110849 or newer guest additions (the guest has older 5.0.22 r108108).

You must install guest additions included in VirtualBox 5.1.24, if you want the freeze fix.
