What graphics hardware and drivers do you have on your host?

And what is your host monitor configuration?

I too am experiencing this issue in VirtualBox 5.2.22 and now also in 6.0.6. The mouse cursor looks like it is just a few of the dots that would normally make up the top of the text insertion cursor.

It happens in windowed and full screen modes. The only way to make it go away is by turning off the Mouse Integration feature.

I am running several Windows Server 2012 R2 VM's with a Microsoft Windows 10 Enterprise (x64) Build 17134.706 (1803/RS4) host. The host system is a Dell Latitude 7480.

Here are the host graphics hardware and monitor setup:

  • 3 display setup
  • right display is the built-in laptop touchscreen
    • Video Card: Intel HD Graphics 520 (Skylake-U GT2) - Integrated Graphics Controller [D0/D1] [DELL]
    • Driver: Intel(R) HD Graphics 520 (version 25.20.100.6472, date: Dec 9, 2018)
  • Other 2 displays are external and are hooked up via the Dell D3100 USB3.0 Dock:
    • Dell E228WFP is what I run the VM's on; it is also the one that is set as my main display
    • the left-hand display is an HP w2007
    • Installed the DisplayLink Manager version 9.0.1890.0 prior to using the USB dock as directed to by my IT department

ADDITIONAL

I just tried running the VM on every display I have and found that it works on the laptop display but only because the Scale is set to 150% in its display settings. If I bring it down to 100% then it shows the same issue. So I tried boosting the scale on my main display to 150% and the text insertion cursor looks fine again, although rather large of course.

I can see a few pixels from the top of the text cursor. It is acting like the cursor is being scaled down too much resulting in many of the pixels not being displayed. I will attempt to grab a screenshot of the nearly invisible cursor.

Let me know if you need any other info or any tests that I can run.

BTW I just tried it on an old WinXP VM that I have and it shows the same issue.

Hopefully the attached videos help.

I've also tried setting the Windows display scale to 125% with no change. So the Windows scale mode must be set to a min of 150% for the text cursor to display properly.

I'm having a similar problem, however it's happening when I set scaling in Windows guests to any values higher than 100%. It seems to get worse with higher scaling values. VB 6.1.6, Windows 10 and Ubuntu 20 guests.
