#16400 new defect

Mouse loses ability to drag

Reported by: berkinet Owned by:
Component: VM control Version: VirtualBox 5.1.12
Keywords: mouse, drag Cc:
Guest type: Windows Host type: Mac OS X

Description

Win-XP VM on OS-X 10.12.2, VB 5.1.12 r112440 (Qt5.6.2)

After a short period (5 to 10 minutes) the mouse loses the ability to click and drag anything in the XP UI. This happens regardless of the pointer device (mouse, trackpad, etc.) The mouse can still select and click event and hoover are processed correctly. It is only drag that does not work. This applies to any draggle object: windows, filed, window position widgets, etc.

It is possible/likely that this is not caused by time, but by some common activity. But, I have not been able to identify any such activities.

From the instructions on the page "Create New Ticket":

  • Attach a (full) log file ("Machine" menu/"Show Log" in the main VirtualBox Manager window) straight away to save time for you and for us. The log file contains a lot of useful information about both the host and the guest systems as well as information about what happened during a particular machine run. Please do not cut and paste it.

Same problem, but on Windows 10 64-bit host and windows 7 64-bit guest. Also I think it's caused by constant left mouse button clicking (but only in task bar area). It starts from ~1 click per 1 sec and goes to ~1 click/10 ms.

@fakee

  • You're having an old version of the Guest Additions (GAs) installed. Install the latest version and don't forget to remove the GAs CD after the installation (unlike now).
  • You have installed the ExtPack but you haven't enabled USB2 in the VM settings. Please do.
  • You have no 2D or 3D graphics acceleration enabled. Please do, before installing the GAs.
  • For future reference, you should completely shut down the VM before grabbing the VBox.log. Then ZIP it.
  • It's usually better and faster, if problems like this one (configuration, question) get first addressed in the forums (https://forums.virtualbox.org/). More than 95% of the issues are resolved over there, which keeps the developers focusing on the bug fixes and enhancements, and there is no need for another ticket to keep track of.
Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
