Please attach a VBox.log of the affected VM. Is this a USB 3.0 stick and on what kind of port is attached on the host (2.0 or 3.0)?

Change the USB controller setting to USB 3.0 (xHCI) in your VM's settings.

Please reopen if still relevant with a recent version of VirtualBox. As the last commenter wrote, for USB3 sticks attached to a USB3 port you need to have the xHCI controller enable in the VM config. As an alternative you can attach the stick to a USB2 port or use an USB2 extension cable to downgrade the USB3 stick to USB2.

This is not a worksforme. This is a "work around" This IS a software "bug". Last I knew: USB 3.0 xHCI is not available for commercial use. How do I install xHCI drivers in a Microsoft Windows XP VM?

Please let me know if this should be changed to a feature request.

This bug happens with a mac catalina host too.

I don't have the option to enable USB 3.0 xHCI, so there isn't really any solution. The USB2 workaround is impractical with USB-C ports, and would be too slow anyway.
