All works fine if acceleration is turned off (VT-x disabled). Thanks for reading.

Reproduced. I can install Windows 98 with VT-x disabled. Btw, enabling 2D+3D is completely superflous for this guest.

This problem should be fixed in the next maintenance release. It also affected Windows 3.x in Standard mode (that's what the Win98 installer uses) and a few other cases.

Fix is part of the most recent 5.0 test builds (>= revision 107256).
