Guest type: | Linux | Host type: | Windows |
Description
Hello.
I installed VirtualBox 5.0.4 and have tried to install various distributions (Ubuntu 14.04 and Debian 8). In all, after installing the "guest additions" when I put the screen in "full screen" mode gives me small black image flashes. For example when you open the Control Panel Ubuntu or run a program. If I'm in windowed mode it works perfectly.
I have the following equipment:
Windows 8.1 FX8350 32 GB of RAM GTX 760 2560x1440 resolution monitor
However on my laptop which has exactly the same software works perfectly full screen. The laptop has the following features:
Windows 8.1 Intel i7 4700-HQ 16 GB of RAM GTX 750m 1920x1080 resolution monitor
I tried to change the resolution of the desktop PC to 1920x1080 and also happens.
P.D. Sorry for the translation
Thanks

A couple of questions: is this reproducible? Is it reproducible with a freshly created machine? Does it still happen if you disable 3D acceleration? Could you explain a bit what you see in a bit more detail, or provide a screen recording?

Hello.
Update with a video recorded with the phone is where exactly the problem. Always happens to me. Both activated and deactivated 3D option. I've also changed the options of adding maximum video memory.
Add link of the video:
Thank you
P.S. Sorry for the translation of Google. I do not speak English and I translate from Spanish.

Indeed, I see the screen briefly flashing black then back a couple of times when you open the control panel in full-screen but not in maximised window mode. Do other guest applications trigger this? Could you attach the files /var/log/Xorg.*.log from the guest?

I also notice that when the screen flashes black the control panel seems to disappear and re-start.

In all new machines that I think I have the same problem.
I put the Xorg log
Thanks for your help

Could you run xev in a terminal in the guest to see if there are any RR*Notify events when you get the black screens?
If you start a terminal in the guest and enter "xev" into it, then trigger the black screens and see if any lines containing RR [something] Notify are shown in the terminal.

Hello.
Document attached to the information that I get to run the command xev in the terminal. Open the Control Panel and then run the ubuntu command xev. This is the information you give me.
Sorry for the translation of Google.
Thank you

I am afraid that I don't have any ideas just now, and can't reproduce this (though it may be related to your HiDPI resolution, which I do not have, or your Windows host - I use Ubuntu as a host too). I think I would ask you for now to do some research, and see if you can find other reports of people with similar problems - remembering that this may also happen on physical hardware and not just in virtual machines.
And no worries about the translation, so far I have understood everything. (If you have doubts about whether the text was understandable you can add Spanish too, but please still include English text, as this may be read by people who do not understand Spanish.)

Thank you michael for your help.
I commented that I just installed Windows 10 in virtualbox and also have the same problem when opening applications so the problem is VirtualBox 5 on my PC. I've set it up to 3 times and does the same.
Thank you

I'm afraid that I am having more and more difficulty guessing where the problem might lie. You confirm that 1) this happens with Linux guests even with 3D disabled on the host and 2) this happens with Windows 10 guests (also with 3D disabled?) Could you also try older versions of VirtualBox<1> - e.g. 5.0.0 or 4.3.30 to see if this is new or a regression, and if so when it started? Could you also try out a couple of other full-screen applications on the Windows host to see if you can reproduce something similar?

Could you please add a log file with 3D disabled, just to be sure that we did not misunderstand you?
