2nd screen window - Fail to open

Description

I have seen an old ticket on this, which is marked as fixed. I am using 4.3.30 and I have the same or similar issue. I guest the root cause is different.

I also posted on the forum but no reply after 2 weeks.

So, my issue is that the 2nd window, representing the 2nd screen/display configured in my VM does not open up when I start my VM.

I am using Ubuntu 14.04 as the host and a Win 7 Guest. All 64 bits. I actually have 2 identical setups (except one is a desktop while the other is a laptop). On the desktop, I have no issue but on the laptop, after using the setup for a while, I can not get the 2nd display to open up. Initially, it was Ok.

VirtualBox is 4.3.30

In the guest (Win), I can see that the 2nd display is shown but settings are grayed out; this looks like the driver is loaded for the 2nd display but somehow VirtualBox tells Windows that the 2nd monitor is off, which is consistent with the fact that there is not a 2nd window opened.

The 2nd window is not visible until the guest tells VBox that it actually want's to use the 2nd screen. This can be done using the guest screen settings: Right click on the desktop, "Screen Resolution". Click on the 2nd monitor, at "Multiple Displays" select "Extend desktop to this display". Then "Apply".

As I said in my post. I did go to screen resolution but Windows greyed out the 2nd monitor, presumably because it is told that the monitor is powered off. The last part is pure speculation on my part.
