 I've created simple script for that [https://gist.github.com/filimonov/58779d1495e81568fb36a52463d2bdb1]. You can schedule that script to on wakeup event.
 If that will help also in other cases listed here - may be that workaround can be added in VirtualBox itself?

 PS. My configuration is VirtualBox 5.2.22 (host: Windows 10 Home, guest: Ubuntu Trusty 14.04.5 LTS). Also (not sure if it's connected) it happens on AMD Ryzen 5 laptop (Ryzen is known to have issues / 'freezes' when running Linux, latest version of linux kernel address some of those issues).
