This error code means that VT-x is either not available on your host or it's disabled in the BIOS settings. The VBox.log file (which you should always attach when reporting bugs!) will probably show the reason.

  • This issue exist in 4.3.28 version of Virtual box as well.
  • I am using Sony Vaio: VPCEH25EN.
  • Virtualization is enabled in BIOS.
  • HOST OS is Windows 7 Home Basic 64bit
  • Guest is bootable if VT-x is disabled
  • 64bit (Windows 10 Tech preview) guest ends up in error as VT-x option becomes mandatory

HM: Failed to initialize VT-x / AMD-V: VERR_VMX_IN_VMX_ROOT_MODE

VMSetError: VT-x is being used by another hypervisor.

Are you sure no other software on your Windows machine is using VT-x?
