Tony Garland "I'm using W2K/SP3 as the guest on Ubuntu 7.1. I'm using the basic scheme of trying to keep the VM image small by telling guest applications which have large sets of data files to install the data files to the shared folder which is mapped via the Z: drive to appear as a network drive. For most of my applications, this has worked fine--the guest application data files are placed in the shared folder and the application installs and runs properly. However, in the case of Britannica 2002 Deluxe Edition -- which is unique among the applications in installing a fairly large set of data files (29022 files comprising 975 MB), the install always hangs at some point while copying one of the data files from the install CD over to the shared folder. The place where it hangs seems to differ (a different file is being copied each time) but the complete install never succeeds without encountering this problem somewhere along the way. If I direct the install to use the local guest file system for the data files, then it succeeds. Unfortunately, that leaves the VM bloated with about 1 GB of data files that are mostly read-only and I'd prefer to have out on the shared folder.
