Shared folders show as disconected network drives

Reported by: frg Owned by:
Component: shared folders Version: VirtualBox 4.3.20
Keywords: network drive Cc:
Guest type: Windows Host type: other

Description

With recent test builds shared folders in Windows are now shown as disconnected network drives. They show content but are not seen with net use. This seems to be a problem with the Guest Additions because older Guest Additions which I am forced to use for a Vista VM due to broken 3D support in virtualbox do not show this behaviour. Host is XP 64 but also occurs with Windows 7 x64 host.

Just found test build 97845. Still not fixed.

I have the same problem in 4.3.22, running a Windows 7 guest over a Mac OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) host. 4.3.20 works correctly for me; this problem is new for me with 4.3.22 Guest Additions.

I too have found its says "disconected network drive" for my shared folders in the new 4.3.22 update although i can still access them ok in the guest os. I've not tried all my guest OSs but it happens in Win 10 TP, Win 7 x64 and XP Pro.

I encounter exactly the same problem after upgraded to 4.3.22. Network drives tagged 'disconnected', vboxsrv 'empty'

Replying to portos:

I encounter exactly the same problem after upgraded to 4.3.22. Network drives tagged 'disconnected', vboxsrv 'empty'

I can confirm the behaviour. Got back to 4.3.20 which used to work.

Should be fixed in VBoxGuestAdditions_4.3.23-98282.iso

frg, and everyone, thanks for the report! Sorry that this regression was not fixed before 4.3.22.

Thanks. This build fixes it up to Windows 8.1. I still see disconnected network drives with Windows 10 TP x64 guest. Can live with that. I checked the log and there is nothing in it indicating a failure with 10. If you want a new log regardless of this let me know.

fgr, thanks, I did not test with W10 guest. Which Windows 10 TP is that? Execute 'ver' in the Command Prompt window.

frg, try to uninstall guest additions in the W10 guest, reboot and install again. This should fix shared folders.

Apparently the installer does not update additions correctly in W10 guest.

Thanks that fixed it for the Win 10 TP.

Some programs still can not be run from a shared folder (the Java jdk or jre installs for example) and complain that the path does not exists but this bug has been in the shared folder support for ages now.

Mapped drive is displayed as "disconnected", but still works. VBox 4.3.22 on Linux x64, guest additions 4.3.22 in Windows XP and Windows 7.
