The easiest way to repro this is fire up emacs with a decently large file, and do an incremental search (by typing ""Ctrl-s search-term"")and wrap from bottom to top a couple of times.

I have reproduced this with Ubuntu 12.04 and 14.04, with bash and zsh, with properly configured UTF-8 locales, with TERM=xterm-256, and with customized and minimal .emacs.d and .bashrc configs.
