I did another test. Find the logs in the attached "VboxLogs.zip". Here is the sequence:

  1. Install VirtualBox-4.3.21-97032-Win.exe

Result: No warning message. Sound works in guest. (I missed that set of logs)

  1. Host Reset
  2. Run VBox.

Result: No warning message. No sound in guest. Logs in "\01 VirtualBox-4.3.21-97032-Win"

  1. Uninstall VirtualBox-4.3.21-97032-Win.exe
  2. Install VirtualBox-4.3.20-96996-Win.exe
  3. Run VBox (without host restart).

Result: No warning message. Sound works in guest. Logs in: " \02 VirtualBox-4.3.20-96996-Win\001 Before restart"

  1. Host restart

Result: Warning message pops up. No sound in guest. Logs in: " \02 VirtualBox-4.3.20-96996-Win\002 After restart"

  1. Uninstall VirtualBox-4.3.20-96996-Win.exe
  2. Install VirtualBox-4.3.12-93733-Win.exe
  3. Host restart
  4. Run VBox.

Result: No warning message. Sound works in guest. Logs in: "\03 VirtualBox-4.3.12-93733-Win"

Hi. Having an update for it. While the repair procedure described in #9205 still works, the results are inconstant and the sound device breaks down from time to time. I applied the parameter +dev_audio.e.f.l2 and now I attach another two logs (in VBox_logs_2015-03-24.zip):

VBox[sound failure+dev_audio].log
VBox[sound fixed by installation repair+dev_audio].log

The first log comes from the broken audio state, the second is done after the 'fix' procedure.
The test done was to run Skype, enter 'audio settings' and test audio devices.
It's worth mentioning, the guest OS - when in the broken state - really struggles trying to get to the audio device. For instance, it hangs for few seconds after choosing an audio operation in Skype. Also it seems, the host audio gets messed by this.
I'm currently on VirtualBox-4.3.26-98988-Win.exe
