Description

If the status bar icons (drive activity, mouse capture etc.) were placed at the top of the window, additional screen real estate could be released hence allowing the guest to run at a higher resolution.

A more general comment to this issue: Especially with wider screen (like in many notebooks these days), having the icons on the left or side side (vertically aligned) will also help in getting more useful height. E.g. 1024x768 would be more usable on a typical 1280x800 screen. So: Ideally make the status bar configurable to any of the borders (or hidable or floating).

I'll agree with the idea of having the menu/status bars more flexible. Turn on/off one/both, and condense them all to one line.

I think in a way this might work in with a suggestion I made as well, #3234, which involves bringing the CD Image dialog into the guest additions to allow modification from within the guest OS. Maybe some of this could be a candidate for inclusion in the guest additions.

I'll even go even further and place the menu (with icons) and the status bar into the title bar. Look at how Chrome did it. Why waste so much screen real estate?
