error: "VBoxManage.exe has stopped working"

Description

The VBoxManage createhd command results in an error window "VBoxManage.exe has stopped working"

The text of the command is: c:\asmfiles>C:\"Program Files"\Oracle\VirtualBox\VBoxManage createhd --filename asm1.vdi --size 5120 --format VDI --variant Fixed

This is a clean install of VirtualBox-4.3.10-93012 on Windows 8.1. No VMs have yet been created.

The install log, and the logs in .virtualbox will be uploaded.

More info: I have tried setting the VBoxManage.exe to run in Windows 7 compatibility mode, and run it as administrator. This makes no difference

Never mind...... You now, in Win 8.1, have to run the commands from the VB install directory.

C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox>VBoxManage createhd --filename c:\asmfiles\asm1.vdi --size 5120 --format VDI --variant Fixed 0%...10%...20%...30%...40%...50%...60%...70%...80%...90%...100% Disk image created. UUID: 5fd2f6c9-2cae-4464-963b-d657977df454

So it works if you start VBoxManage from the correct directory, right? But did VBoxManage really crash if you don't start it from the installation directory?

Resolution: obsolete
Status: newclosed

Please reopen if still relevant with a recent VirtualBox release.
