Description

Running VirtualBox on 64-bit Fedora 17, with a 64-bit Windows 7 guest. On start, I get the following message:

"Some audio devices (PCM_out) could not be opened. Guest applications generating audio output or depending on audio input may hang. Make sure your host audio device is working properly. Check the logfile for error messages of the audio subsystem.

Error ID: HostAudioNotResponding Severity: Warning"

The sound works perfectly fine on the host.

In such cases there might be a conflict between the VM process and the host audio system. I guess you are using PulseAudio, in that case the host audio system will occupy the ALSA device and other processes are not able to access that device. What happens if you switch your VM to use the PulseAudio backend?
