vrdp access sending too many keys to Linux guests

Reported by: KintaroBC Owned by:
Component: RDP Version: VirtualBox 4.3.6
Keywords: Cc:
Guest type: Linux Host type: Linux

Description

I can't use vrdp with my linux guests because pressing a key once sends it many times, making the console unusable. It doesn't happen with the Xorg based graphical Debian installer. It just happens with the standard console in Linux guests.

I have tried with Remmina and rdesktop, with no difference. The host operating system is CentOS 6.5. The system accessing the remote desktop is Fedora 20. The guest is Debian 7.

Please install

http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/4.3.8_RC1/Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-4.3.8_RC1-92386.vbox-extpack

Then get a debug log of VRDP keyboard events:

  • start the Debian 7 VM;
  • execute:

VBoxManage debugvm Sardis log --release "+vrdp.e.l5,-vrdp.restrict"

  • connect to the VM using a RDP client;
  • reproduce the problem;
  • attach VBox.log of the session to this ticket and add a comment on which key was sent many times.

Thanks.

I typed "john" and got multiple keys for each. Any keyboard input repeats in this way.

This appears to be a bug in both Remmina, and rdesktop. I just tried the Windows client and this problem didn't occur.

Unfortunately the log does not contain any debug info. Did you attach the correct log? Did you execute VBoxManage debugvm on the host where the Debian VM (Sardis) is running?

It would still be interesting to see what rdesktop and Remmina send to the server.
