Windows 8.1 guest detect virtual disk as SSD on host with hybrid disk

Description
My host is Ubuntu 13.10 64bit, 16GB RAM, Hybrid disk Seagate ST750LX003-1AC154 (SM12). Guest is Windows 8.1 32 bit. Windows 8.1 guest detect the virtual disk as SSD and disable windows 8.1 optimization utility/task.

The VBox.log file for such a VM session is missing.
I wonder if you just checked the 'SSD disk' checkbox for the virtual disk in the VM settings.
No, 'SSD disk' checkbox for virtual disk is not checked!!!!!

I don't think this was a VBox bug to start with. Windows probably uses some heuristics to determine whether the disk is an SSD or not if there is no clear indicator. If this is still an issue you can try to set a bandwidth limit for the disk image as described here.
Btw., the optimizations don't make much sense for virtual images anyway as the guest can't know where on the disk the data will be really stored due to the additional indirection (actually two indirections, the host filesystem and the block table for dynamic images). Could be that Windows also detects the virtual environment and disables optimization task because of that.
