#12325 closed defect (fixed)

Guest Additions 4.3.2 run significantly slower than 4.1.2 => Fixed in SVN

Reported by: Artem S. Tashkinov Owned by:
Component: other Version: VirtualBox 4.3.2
Keywords: Cc:
Guest type: other Host type: other

Description

Host OS: Linux 3.12 i686, VirtualBox 4.3.2
Guest OS: Windows XP SP3 i686, vanilla

With 4.1.2 Guest Additions applications run and work faster in 2D than with Guest Additions 4.3.2.

A simple test: run from Win+R mspaint.

With 4.1.2 Paint starts almost instantly.
With 4.3.2 Paint takes at least a second to start.

It's all tested under the same VirtualBox 4.3.2. My CPU is Intel Core i5 2500. All hardware virtualization features are enabled.

Could you please check the CPU load in the guest with 4.3.2 guest additions? Maybe some guest process has a high CPU consumption? Thanks.

comment:2 by Artem S. Tashkinov, 10 years ago

No, the guest OS is idling in both cases.

Please try this build http://www.virtualbox.org/download/testcase/VirtualBox-4.3.3-90777-Win.exe (link expires in ~14 days) We've made a few fixes in this area.

Is a there a CentOS 6 i686 rpm and VirtualBox Extension Pack?

comment:5 by Frank Mehnert, 10 years ago

Here is the EL6 package and here is the corresponding extpack.

With build 90796 I cannot spot any slow downs in this usage scenario.

Hopefully the next stable release won't have any further regressions.

This bug report can be safely closed.

Thank you.
