#12125 closed defect (obsolete)

USB Hard Drives Drives fail to attach from MAC 10.8.4 to Guests and then they crash

Reported by: YTC#1 Owned by:
Component: USB Version: VirtualBox 4.2.18

Guest type: all Host type: Mac OS X

Description

Using MAc OS X 10.8.4 with VB 4.2.18 (and 4.2.16) external HDs fail to connect.

I have created filters as suggested in other posts/web pages and the USB devices appear in the Devices pull down. When I select the device I get the following error message.

Failed to attach the USB device Unknown device to the virtual machine .

Callee RC: NS_ERROR_CALL_FAILED (0x800706BE)

The Devices list then no longer has the Bluetooth, IR or Facetime listed. Just "No USB devices"

Next the VMs become inaccessible and the VBox manager needs to be shut down and restarted. Hosts then show as aborted and need restarting.

This occurs with Windows (XP and Solaris 11 hosts
