Using Trunk Build: VirtualBox VM 4.2.51 r86633 (released today).

Isn't this rather a petty attitude - if it's a fault based on svn an build isn't it a fault in 4.2.14 so why can't it be looked at?

No, trunk is completely different from 4.2.14. There were big changes in the storage area inbetween which might cause this. Trunk always marks the current state of the next major version (e.g. 4.3 or whatever comes afterwards). 4.2.14 is a bugfix release maintained in a branch which was forked when 4.2.0 was released. However, thanks for the report nevertheless. As you provided a VBox.log already I'll try to reproduce it but remember to report issues with trunk to vbox-dev in the future :)
SVN builds are usually not discussed in bugtracker. Submits usually go to the DEV list.
