after showing the logo windows a dialog box appear telling me that a critical error has taken place

2GB of RAM is not much for using a VMM. Although a 512MB VM should not abort with out-of-memory. Please check #10121 to see if you are affected by issues described there (e.g. did you install the prio tool?)
